Former Liverpool and Scotland defender Alan Hansen is seriously ill in hospital, the Merseyside club has announced.
Hansen, 68, played over 600 games for Liverpool and won 28 caps for Scotland during his playing career.
He has been a regular pundit on Match of the Day since retiring from playing in 1991.
Liverpool said in a statement: "The club can confirm that former player and manager Alan Hansen is seriously ill in hospital.
"The thoughts of everyone at Liverpool Football Club are with Alan and his family at this time.
"The club would ask that the privacy of Alan and his family be respected at this time."
Hansen was a key member of the Liverpool team that won eight league titles, four FA Cups and three European Cups during the 1970s and 1980s
He was also part of the Scotland team that reached the 1978 World Cup finals.
After retiring from playing, Hansen moved into coaching and management.
He was assistant manager to Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool from 1985 to 1991, and then manager of Blackburn Rovers from 1991 to 1996.
Hansen has been a regular pundit on Match of the Day since 1992.
