Lukas Collects Seventh Preakness Win, His Horse Pays $21.60
Seize the Grey, ridden by jockey Joel Rosario, pulled ahead in the stretch to win a muddy Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, edging out Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan.
The victory marked the seventh Preakness win for 88-year-old trainer D. Wayne Lukas, who now has seven garlands of black-eyed Susans in his collection. Seize the Grey paid $21.60 to win, $8.40 to place, and $4.40 to show.
Mystik Dan, the favorite and Kentucky Derby winner, came in second and paid $4.20 and $2.80. Third-place Catching Freedom paid $4.40.
Seize the Grey bested an eight-horse field to win the 149th running of the Preakness Stakes, which was held on a muddy track due to heavy rain.
