North Korea strengthens ties with Iran and Russia
Delegation to Iran
A high-level North Korean economic delegation is on its way to Iran, the North's state media said Wednesday. This would be the first time the two countries have exchanged delegations at this level.
Trilateral naval exercises
On March 11, Iran, Russia, and China launched the fourth iteration of their four-day annual trilateral naval exercises. According to Iranian Second Rear Admiral Mustafa Taj al-Dini, the exercises are aimed at strengthening maritime security and cooperation among the three countries.
Support for Russia
The support from China, Iran, and North Korea has strengthened Russia's position on the battlefield, undermined Western attempts to isolate Moscow, and harmed Ukraine.
Delegation to Iran
On April 24, 2024, North Korea sent its highest-level delegation to Iran in about five years. The United States has raised concerns that arms sales from Pyongyang and Tehran have helped Russia in its war against Ukraine.
Ties with Russia and China
Recently, North Korea's relations with Russia have seemingly outpaced ties with China. However, Pyongyang has more to gain from maintaining good relations with both countries.
